Billy No Mates Scooter Club - St George's Day Do
Sunday, 27th April 2008
We met at the Cherry Tree for this ride out. Members for the event were myself, Corky, Grinner, Neil, Darren aka Ray Adam, Eddie, Little Eddie & Billy. We set off in sunshine and headed for Ramsey. Slight error we turned left instead of right and ended up testing the scooters suspension in a place named Ramsey Hollow - officially Britains worst road. Back to Ramsey and on to Warboys, through Warboys then back through Warboys again lol only cuz I thought I saw 'Dave Boy Green' walking his dog. At this point Grinner took over the lead just as the heavens opened up, quick stop and waterproofs on we headed on ... Somersham, Willingham & Rampton came and past still pssing down. On to Histon then the A14 only 2 junctions to go, but just as we thought we'd cracked it Craig aka Goose decided it would be a good idea to run out of fuel. Luckily he had taken Adams advice - best take some Jerry cans & a barrel of 2 stroke. Re-fuelled and off we went. Stow-cum-Quy village straight ahead - hooray we're there ... Oh no were not! We couldn't find the pub. After going up and down the village without luck Grinner came to the rescue and led us to The Prince Albert (no jokes please!). We were greeted with a great sight of 100+ scooters. We all headed into the pub and removed soaked waterproofs and hung them to dry from various places. Back out into the car park to mingle, look at the scooters and re-fuel with hot tea and chips. Ray and I decided to go on the ride out around Cambridge. The others decided a warm pub and cold beer was a better option, so off Ray and I set. It was a well organised ride, right through the city centre, tourists and locals all waving and taking photos at the sight and smell of 100+ scooters. Back to the pub for the results of the custom show and a raffle then time to set off back to Boro. Darren decided (pass the blame Bosett) we should go Ely way home as it would be QUICKER. Anyway somewhere between Ely and March, once again, we managed to get lost and before we knew it we was stood on a country road in the middle of nowhere somewhere near March lol a man down. Our gallent leader was missing after stopping to wring a kidney out. After trying to get him on the phone we decided Fast Eddie would go back and look. On his return alone we made a joint decision to carry on hoping Corky had took another turning - I'm afraid the rest is history. Up until then it was another great day with a great bunch of lads that I'm honoured to call friends. When I was a goalkeeper on sunday mornings people used to say to me "you must be stupid or mad". I think the same applys to scootering? Can't wait til the next time ... cheers all.
