The club was set up be various people in Peterborough into Lambretta and Vespa scooters. The Lambretta and Vespa club came about because the members used to go to rallies together and wanted a simple but common name to fall under. Hence Peterborough Lambretta and Vespa Scooter Club.
Currently most of the members ride old school Lambrettas and Vespas, there a few new Vespas. The Lambretta members ride a wholehost of the Lambretta range including Lambretta LD, Lambretta LI, Lambretta TV, Lambretta SX and Lambretta GP models. Most of Lambrettas are very good and have had full restorations on them, making the Lambrettas better in some cases than new. One particular Lambretta has had a 4-stroke engine fitted.
The club show the Lambrettas and Vespas at various events around Peterborough. The Lambrettas and Vespas always draw the crowds many people talking about their first Lambretta or Vespa.
Over the years many people have come and gone with their Lambrettas and Vespas. There are many reasons for this, but people in the club dip in out of the Lambretta and Vespa scooter scene as life changes. There is a nucleus of people that stay within the club. Bi-weekly meetings at the Cherry Tree Pub in Peterborough give the chance for the club to show of the scooters and the Lambrettas and Vespas can be seen.
There are links to the mod scene and 60’s but also a lot to the northern soul scene of the 70’s with its massive links to all things mod and scooter related. Many of the soulies in the 70’s had Lambrettas and Vespas.
The Lambrettas and Vespas come from various places many being passed around the club. One Lambretta has been owned by several club members through the years and is currently being ridden by two club members.
If you fancy a Lambretta or Vespa then why not come down and say hello and have a look around and see if a Lambretta scooter or Vespa is for you.
